We head Down Under to meet the friendly face of Corrotherm in Australia, Phil Lambert, to find out more about his role and his world-travelling adventures

Name: Phil Lambert
Position: Sales Manager
Time at Corrotherm: 3.5 years
Interests and hobbies: Travelling, golf, DIY

Sales Manager Phil Lambert is certainly making his way around the world. After starting his career as a mechanical engineer at the age of 16 in Plymouth, UK, he is now a key member of the Corrotherm family, based in Western Australia, where he has been living and working for over 30 years. He was given the opportunity to help start up the Corrotherm Asia-Pacific office, and he thrives on being “an integral part of such a close-knit team, and building up the customer base in the Asia-Pacific region”.

Travel forms an important part of Phil’s life, and he wants to do much more of it over the coming years. Though Phil will still be very much involved with the Asia Pacific region along with Jay Jang, our Business Development manager, his next big international jump will take him from Western Australia to his soon-to-be new home in Southern France. Here he will be continuing his hard work for Corrotherm and is excited for his new venture. “I’ve been in the steel industry since I was 16 years old – so 40 years! – 32 of which have been in Australia, and I now have an opportunity to spend another 40 years based in France,”.

Wherever he is based, Phil has a talent for building strong relationships in the industry. He loves “meeting people, and making friends with both customers and suppliers alike” as well as “gaining the trust and confidence of our customers”. Speaking to him, you can feel his passion for selling and for the products at Corrotherm.

Having been in the steel industry for a few decades, Phil’s seen alloys develop and evolve. When asked about his favourite Corrotherm product, one that stands out is INCONEL alloy 625, a popular choice among our team around the world. With such excellent corrosion resistance and high strength, it’s a versatile and flexible alloy with myriad uses. Phil also highlights the newer grades, such as INCONEL alloy 690, which has superseded older alloys in a number of different industries, including steam generation nuclear reactors and metal-dusting environments.

He has watched the highs and lows of the industry, giving him a strong perspective on how the future might look in the next five years: “[The industry will be] recovering from the current economic downturn, especially with oil, and with more focus on the renewable energies and nuclear industries.” He is well aware of the current challenges and what needs to change going forward: “It has to be the oil price, which is the main driver in our industry, and the emerging nations such as China and in particular India who both need much more energy than they currently have.”

Phil is always keen to share and pass on his knowledge and experience, and to help encourage the next generation. “It’s my goal to share life’s experiences, both good and bad, so that others can learn,” he says. “[It’s important to know], especially for the younger generation, that ‘people still buy from people’ and human interactions/relationships are a still very important in this technological world we live in.”
